What does your company do?
Bespoke wedding and celebration cakes, plus cupcakes and edible wedding favours
Unique/different selling point
My style is clean and contemporary with a twist. I love using flowers and scattered petals in interesting ways, plus I create edible brooches to give cakes an exciting vintage feel. I am also known for my distinctive animal characters and bright, fun novelty cakes.
Reason for starting your company
I have always been creative and loved baking since I was a child. I made a 3D novelty birthday cake for my brother one year and received such an amazing reaction, I found myself making excuses to create cakes for all of my family and friends. It turned into a real obsession and I realised I had found my dream career so I took it from there.
Services to couples getting married
I am a bespoke cake designer so will work with the couple to design their perfect cake. My design and tasting consultations are complimentary and as an ethical wedding supplier, there are no hidden charges, only delicious cakes made from local and Fairtrade ingredients.
Most popular product/package
This is a difficult one as every cake is different. Cupcake towers are still as popular as ever, as are the more traditional three tier stacked cakes. The general trend at the moment is either for couples to order cakes with quirky characters that represent something important in their life, or to have quite a soft, feminine style cake with colours that perfectly tie in with the colour scheme of the day. Lots of greens, golds and ivory, which is great because I love these colours, on their own or together!
What tip would you give couples starting the planning process?
My tip would be to book people that you get on with and who you feel understand you and what kind of wedding you are having, and book them early. I think people often don’t consider the wedding cake until quite late on in the planning process because they aren’t sure of what theme they are having so don’t know the exact details of the cake. However, cake designers often book up quite far in advance so to avoid disappointment, it is best to reserve the date as far in advance as you can, so that you can go back nearer the time with more details about the actual day. I offer a £30 Save the Date option, which I have found couples to really appreciate. It takes the worry out of finding your suppliers and means you can enjoy the whole process.
Do you prefer working with suppliers from your area?
I love working with other local suppliers! It’s great to see local talent in action, and view all of the exciting and novel ideas that people have. Local networking is also important as you never know when you can be of help to each other in the future. Even between people in the same industry, such as with wedding cakes, I really appreciate the opportunity for us to get to know each other, for support, reassurance, referrals and to talk to someone who actually understands what you are going on about!
